So, this weekend my friend Gregg Nakamura put together a contest. He calls it the BUI. It's just basically all the boys surfing against each other and having fun. And we surf to get bragging rights.

Last year, I won, but this year I got 2nd to Kaito Kino. He's a young, humble kid who's surfing has gotten better and better every time I see him. I'm stoked to see all the groms ripping nowadays. I just hope they have a good head on their shoulders.

I also stayed at a beachhouse with Cori and family. It was so much fun. We went crabbing one night and caught huge sand crabs and made them fight. These are some things that we do in Hawaii when we go camping.

A few days ago there were lots of sharks cruising around. There's been lots of sharks this summer. Scary stuff...

And congratulations to Koa D and Waimea for their second child!!! Kalehua Murphy Doroha!!! Stoked for the guy!

Waves have been really fun in Hawaii. Super rippable. Wish I could show you photos but you'll need to wait for the magazines to come out.

Yesterday, Fresno State beat Georgia! They were called the underdogs and people thought they would lose but they ended up WINNING the College World Series of Poker!

Surfed with Jun, Ronnie, and my friend Kalei yesterday. Jun was shredding. and did a look back floater after I told him to "do something." It was pretty funny.

Saw one of the Diamond Head local boys get in the newspaper. "Lui" bodyboards every morning and is 75 years and has only missed 4 days in the water in 2 years. Living it up!

Checked surfingthemag.com and saw that Dean Morrison hurt his back really bad. Luckily, he's ok. It seemed very serious.

People need to take advantage of being injury-free. I remember what it was like to be hurt. I was super bummed. But all injuries happen for a reason. So, learn from them.

I saw these photos of Bali. Dang! Rob Machado charging the inside corner at Uluwatu. It's shallow!

Slater showed up at Trestles for the NSSA contest. I think he's practicing for the WCT there. He seems very strong this year.

The new premier for "Stranger than Fiction" showed in California. Can't wait to see it! Man, Taylor Steele looks a little intimdated. I would too with Sunny there.

Went to Lulu's last night to celebrate Bam's 6-star win in the Maldives. He was definitely having fun. Thanks Matty Liu for hooking us up.

Today, Kirby called me up and we jumped on his boat to surf Big Rights. We checked Bowls, Kaisers, and Ala Moana Beach Park. It was so awesome! I was super stoked! It was like V.I.P. treatment to just jump off a boat and go surfing with my friends out there. I felt tired and surfed out but didn't hesitate on the opportunity. Thanks Kirby. Super stoked.

Everyone was out. Wendall Kong, Ronnie Yamada (of course), Shuji Kasuya, Matty Liu, my Uncle Popo, and a couple east side guys. I was so tired that I didn't feel like catching too many waves.

Tiger had to get surgery on his knee. To think he won the U.S. Open with a hurt knee is amazing. That's all mental toughness. I hope Tiger comes out with a book on that, I'll buy it for sure.

Drove to Kailua to visit my grandparents and the surfboard factory. It's such a nice part of the island.

But the nice drive didn't come without a price. $75 to fill up my car! I didn't realize that the gas pump stops pumping gas at $75!!! That's heavy!

タイガーは膝の手術を受けないといけなかったんだ。膝の痛みを抱えながらＵＳオープンで 優勝したのはすごいことだよ。精神力が成せる事だね。タイガーが本にこのことを書いたら、絶対買いたいね。

祖父母に会いに、それとサーフボードの工場に行くのにカイルアまでドライブしたんだ。ここは島の中でもすごく良いところだよ。

だけどドライブにもお金が掛かるね。満タンにするのに＄75もしたよ！　ガソリンをポンプで入れてて＄75まで行くとは思わなかったよ！　ヤバイよ！

So... After my blog that I bowled 210, Gordinho (the photographer) went out to beat it... And ALMOST DID! He bowled a 203 in real life! He was the Cali Jr. Bowler Champ, but chopse surfing instead of bowling.

I think Tina's going to be good too. She broke a 100 and she's got a champion bowler as a Dad.

There has been a HUGE tiger shark seen around the Diamond Head area. Some people say 8 ft., some people say 12 ft. Either way, it's HUGE. I think I'll only surf out there if it's crowded.

I was invited to go to a SIMPLE PLAN concert with my friend and Murasaki Sports team manager Shunichiro "Chachi" Shimada. I was so bummed I couldn't go. He had backstage tickets too! He even got to meet them. URAYAMASHII....

Ok. So, the last few days have been funny out at BIg Rights. Some guy who just paddled out tries to snake me then calls me "over-the-hill." haha... Then, a girl fully got in my way on the BEST wave I've caught this summer out there and tells me, "Why are you tripping? It's just a wave." Haha... If I had a real job, I would've been ultra mad, but... I have the best job in the world. So all I can do is laugh it off... I'll let my friend Ronnie do the yelling. haha...

ハッピーバースディ、ジーナ！　彼女はとても背が高いけどまだ16歳なんだよ。僕が16歳のとき4’11フィートしかなかったよ。

ダイヤモンドヘッドのあたりで巨大なタイガーヘッドシャークが出たんだ。誰かは８フィートて言っていて、１２フィートあったて言っていた人もいた。どっちにしても巨大だ。　そこでサーフィンするときは人がたくさんいるときだけにしようっと。

ムラサキスポーツのチームマネージャーの嶋田チャチさんにシンプルプランのコンサートに呼ばれてたんだ。　行けなくてすごく悲しいよ。彼はバックステージパスまで持っていたんだよ！　それでメンバーにも会ったんだ。うらやましい・・・・

ここ数日はビッグライツでなんだか変なことがあったよ。　あるヤツがパドルして僕にスネーキングしてきて、それから僕に「お前はもうピークをすぎたロートルだな」なんて言ったんだ、ハハ・・・　それから、ある女の子が、僕が今年の夏に乗った中でベストの波のライン上にいて、さらにこう言ったんだ「何、怒ってるのよ？　たかが１本の波じゃない」ハハ・・・もし僕が別の仕事をしている最中だったらめちゃくちゃ怒っていただろうな、でも・・僕はプロサーファーで世界で最高の仕事をしているんだ、だからそんなことがあっても笑い飛ばせるよ・・怒鳴るのは僕の友達のローニーに任せるよ。ハハ・・・

Today I surfed 5 hours and caught 100 waves. Ronnie Yamada, Mike Dodd, Matty Liu and I were trading off. Ronnie got us pumped and made us remember how important it is to not waste waves and go 12 o'clock. Not 11:30, not 1... 12 o'clock! So much fun. Probably a session, I'll remember for a long time. Just trading waves and stories and having a great time at Big Rights with nobody but us (while from our view, there was nobody cause we were with Ronnie. haha...).

On the way to the beach, a diet coke can that has been in my car BLEW UP! The soda went everywhere. I think the heat and cold from the A/C finally got to it and it exploded.

Then, we visited Zen Yoshifuku and Jun Jo at N4mation. Those guys are taking over!

Went back to check the waves and saw my friend Trav "Goose" Sayegusa going out so I decided to paddle out with him. Then, our friend Brady Oshiro joined us. 3 guys and all the waves we wanted for an hour at Big Rights. All to ourselves. So much fun! So tired, but ready for more tomorrow! Can't wait to surf Big Rights. Gonna try some new boards out!

Oh yup, and the Boston Celtics SCHOOLED the Lakers. haha... Boston's taking over! Baseball! Basketball! Watch out now! haha...

今日、五時間サーフィンして１００本の波に乗ったよ。ローニーヤマダ、マイクドット、マティルゥを僕は順番に乗りまくったよ。ローニーは僕らをあおって、11：30、いや１２時に出かけて行って波を無駄にしないことがいかに重要かを教えてくれたよ。すごく楽しかったよ。ずっと忘れられないセッションになったよ。みんなで波を順番に乗って、すごく最高の時間をビッグライツで過ごしたんだ、僕ら以外の誰もいないし（僕らから見れば他人がいないのと一緒だんだ、だってローニーと一緒だったからさ）

ビーチへ行く途中でダイエットコークの缶が車の中で爆発したんだ！　炭酸がそこら中に飛び散った。熱とエアコンのクーラーでそれが膨張して爆発したんだじゃないかな。

それから吉福然とジュンに会いにin4mationに行ったんだ。やつらはイケてるよ！

波をチェックしに戻って友達のトラビス”グース”サエグサに会って一緒にパドルアウトすることにしたんだ。それから友達のブレイディ・オオシロと一緒にビッグライツで一時間サーフィンしたんだ。３人で全部の波を取ろうとして一時間ビッグライツでやったんだ。すごく楽しかったよ！すごく疲れたけど明日もまたやるんだ！　明日もビッグライツでサーフィンするのが楽しみ。あたらしいボードを試してみよう！

Surfed Bowls tonight with my friends Gregg and Lee. It was firing when we first went out. I think I'll surf that place all the time if there's south winds because there weren't too many guys out. Hope it gets bigger tonight, then I can surf Big Rights tomorrow!

The other day was Codey's birthday. 10 years old. Don't let that smile fool you. He's a rascal. haha... But I love him.

Got some new boards from Wes. So stoked! My boards have been ridiculous lately. They're so fast and responsive. I'm super stoked! Thanks to Wes and FADE surfboards.

Tiger Woods is my hero. I can't believe he made the putt that he made on the 18th hole with ALL that pressure. If he missed it, he would've got 2nd. But because he made it, he now goes into a sudden death playoff tomorrow. AMAZING!!!

Played some wii last night with Gregg and Cori. I kicked some ass in bowling! BUt that's about it. haha... Wish I could bowl like that for real.

今夜、友達のグレッグとリーと一緒にボウルズでサーフィンしたんだ。最初着いたときすごい波だったんだ。もし南風だったらずっとサーフィンしようと思っていたんだ、そんなにたくさん混んでいたわけじゃなかったから。今夜波が上がってくれるといいな、そしたら明日ビッグライツでやろう！

この前はコーディーの誕生日だったんだ。１０歳だよ。そんな変なスマイルしないでね。ヤツはワルガキなんだよ。ハハ・・でも僕は大好きだよ。

ウェスから新しいボードをもらったよ。サイコー！　最近の僕のボードはマジやばいよ。すごく早くて反応がいいんだ。ホントに嬉しい！ ありがとう、ウェス＆FADE Surfboards.

タイガーウッズは僕のヒーローで、彼はすごい大変なプレッシャーの中で１８ホールのパットを沈めたんだ。彼はミスして２位だったけど、決勝に進んだんだ、明日はサドンデスのプレイオフに突入だよ。すごい!!!

昨晩はグレッグとコーリーとＷｉｉをやったんだ。ボーリングでみんなをやっつけたよ！まあ、ただのゲームだけど、ハハ・・・現実でもこれぐらいボーリングが上手いといいな。

BAM BAM won the 6-star in the Maldives! Holy Cow! That was an amazing day. Joel got 3rd, Makua got 5th, Barca got 2nd. Wow! Hawaiians DOMINATED!

I was yelling so loud while I was watching it online yesterday. It was like a baseball game or a football game. Just back and forth in the final. Good on ya Bam, like you said... "Got the gorilla off your back." Meaning it's been a long time of working hard to get that WQS win, and he's got it! That's something nobody can take away. Especially in a contest with so many great surfers. It's still really early but I hope he makes the WCT! We're rooting for him and Joel!

Here's today's waves at Bowls. Today is one of the smallest days since I've been home and it's still firing! 2-3 ft and super rippable! So glad to be home with waves.

Surfed with Kirby yesterday at Big Rights. He had this waterproof digital camera that he was taking video with. It was sick! He posted it on youtube. Then, when he went in these super sick bombs started coming through. 4 footers! Then, it happened to me too when I was going in. It always happens at Big Rights. It's pretty funny.

バンバンがモルジブの6スターのWQSで優勝した！　スゲー！今日はすごい日だったよ。ジョエルが3位、マクアが5位、バルカが2位。　すごい!ハワイアンで独占だよ！

昨日オンラインで見てる時には僕は大声で叫びまくってたんだ、それはまるで野球やフットボールの試合を見てるようだったよ。ファイナルでは抜きつ抜かれつだったんだ。やったね、バン、君が良く言ってたようみたいに「背中のゴリラを下ろす」って、それはＷＱＳで優勝するまでハードに頑張って長い時間掛かるっていう意味で、彼はそれをやったんだ！それは誰もが出来ないことだよ。こんなにすごいサーファー達が出場してる大会では特にだね。まだすごく気が早いかもしれないけど僕は彼がＷＣＴまで行くことを期待してるんだ。僕らは彼とジョエルを応援してるよ！

コレは今日のボウルズの波。今日は僕がハワイに戻ってきてからの最近で一番小さい日だけど、それでもまだまだ波はあるね！２，３フィートですごいリッパブルだよ！　ホームポイントに波があるのがすごく嬉しいよ。

昨日はカービーとビッグライツでサーフィンしたんだ。彼は水中デジタルカメラを持ってきてそれでビデオを取ったんだよ。すごいよ！彼がyoutube にアップしたよ。それから彼がゲッティングアウトしてくるとすごい波がどんどんやってきたんだよ。４フィートのやつ！それから僕もアウトに出ると同じ事が起きるんだよ。それは、ビッグライツでいつも起こるんだ。かなりおかしいね。

The only place I like to eat in Bali is Balcony. I think I ate there 4 times when I was in Bali and I ate the chicken skewers every time. Mean! Check out the presentation of it.

So... Coming from Hawaii, we hardly wear suits. Jason and I bought some custom suits in Bali for $80!!! Jacket and pants! Being that was the first suit we've ever owned we were stoked, but I think Batz was more stoked than me. He wore it home after we got them the next night, in the super hot Bali street.

Me and Tetsu Urayama. Tetsu helped me out like 10 years ago. When I first met him he was 3-time Grand Champ and on top of the world, yet he went out of his way to help me out and that means a lot to me. So, no matter how hard of a time he's having, he'll always be a friend.

バリ島で食事をするときにはバルコニーがイイね。バリにいるときに４回はバルコニーで食事したかな、それでいつもチキンの串焼きを食べてた。見てよ、こんな感じで出てくるんだよ。

ハワイから来ているし、僕らはほとんどスーツなんかは着ないね。ジェイソンと僕はバリでオーダーメードのスーツを＄80で買ったんだ！ｼﾞｬｹｯﾄとパンツ合わせてだよ！自分達で始めて作ったスーツだったから僕らは嬉しかったよ、とくにバッツは僕より興奮してたかな。ヤツは買った翌日の夜にも家で着てたし、バリのめっちゃ暑い通りでもね。

僕と浦山テツ。テツは１０年ぐらい僕を助けてくれてるんだ。僕が始めて彼に会ったときは彼は３回のグランドチャンピオンで世界のトップだったんだ、それでも、彼は僕に援助する努力をしてくれたんだ、そして、それは僕にとって多くを意味するんだ。だから彼にどんな大変なことがあっても彼とはずっと友達でいるんだ。

Sorry everyone for not being able to update the site. I had some problems with internet in Bali. Anyway, here's an extra long blog...

Sometimes, on a plane ride you can see the nicest sunrises or sunsets ever! This was the sunset on the way to Bali. And this is probably the same thing I'll see later on today on the way home! Woo hoo!

My board bag ripped because I tried to fit 5 boards in a 3 board bag (which I've done before). And I had to make a pit stop at Surf Hardware Int. Thanks for the new board bag guys! Stoked!!!

Betet. If you don't see him in Bali, you'll hear him. He's the funniest guy ever. He's a gangstar in Bali, man. Bred from the streets into a surf star. Saw him do a crazy Betet turn.

Took a taxi home from dinner with Shibatz, Keisuke, and Wo Kun and our driver told us the heaviest story I've ever heard. Basically, he told us that he was 1 minute away from dying in the bomb a few years ago. He saw the car that blew up but past it (not knowing it was a car bomb), then dropped off his customer who gave him a generous tip. He offered to get her change from another driver but she said No thanks and went off to the club. 30 seconds later the bomb went off. The windows in his car all broke and he said his mind went blank for 5 minutes and couldn't register what just happened. The car that was 2 cars behind him was all black. The girl who said to keep the change was gone. He was extremely lucky and he wanted to thank the customer who saved his life.

We hung out with Agus and his posse everyday of the contest and before the contest. Nicest guys in the world. I'm stoked they remember me.

Still got my name written on the wall in the resturant IKA. Haha...

2 days before day one of the contest, my fin decided to come out. Luckily I took it to Freedom surfshop and they fixed it perfectly for me. Super stoked with Bali. Best ding repair in the world and it only takes one day! AND! it only costs about $15.

In Bali, motor bikes are a way of getting around. I've seen families of 5 driving around. Check this out! It's really scary because one accident can cost them their lives on mopeds. But that's their way of life. So, be glad to have a car if you've got one.

Kerama's sunrise! So nice.

The day before the contest there were about 53 guys at all times in the water. From 6am till we left at 1pm. AND! Kerama's is only a right, so you'd wait forever, finally get one, and almost hit like 5 people going down the line. Haha...

Slater won again! 3 wins out of 4 events. Amazing. I think he's in the World Title race. hahaha...

In Bali you feel rich! I exchanged 20,000yen (about $200) and got 2,870,000 rupi. It lasted me a week of international phone calls, internet fees, all meals, ding repair, dvds, water, taxi rides... It was nice.

Got my full 2-week load of laundry washed for $3!!!! Only in Bali.

Our driver's name is Komang Budiasa. Keisuke and Broken always ride with him in Bali and that's how they came about the name of their dvd, BUDIASA. He's the coolest guy ever with a great family. His baby, Dedi is a cute little guy. On the way to the airport, he was telling me about how much he gets paid daily and how much he can spend. I was tripping out. It made me want to try and help him out anyway I can. Never take for granted that you're able to luxury things. Komang works harder than many people I know but just being in Bali where the Rupi is very low in value makes it a challenge to survive. Always remember how lucky you are and that money doesn't make happiness.

Going home in a few hours to Hawaii. Waves are firing, Cori's waiting, my bro's are outta school, card games to be had, gonna train, shoot photos, switch the contest mode off for a little while... Can't wait.

時々、飛行機の中からすごく綺麗なサンセットやサンライズを見えるよね！　これはバリへ行くときに見たサンセット。　今日これから家へ帰るときにまた同じのが見えるだろう！　ワオー！

3本用のボードケースに５本を入れようとしていたら（前に出来たことがある）、ボードケースが破れちゃった。だからサーフハードウエアインターナショナルにちょっと立ち寄らないと。　新しいボードケースをありがとう！　最高!!!

ベテ。もし君がバリで彼に会ってなかったらあったほうがいいよ。　彼は最高に面白いヤツなんだ。　彼はバリのギャングスターでストリート育ちからサーフスターになったんだ。　ベテのクレイジーなターンを見たよ。

シバタとケイスケとウークンでディナーに行くのにタクシーに乗ってドライバーから今まで効いたこと無いヘビーな話を聞いたんだ。　彼は数年前の爆弾テロの場所から１分ぐらいのところにいた。彼は爆発する車が通り過ぎるのを見ていて（爆弾を積んでる車だと知らずに）、彼は気前よくチップを払った乗客をおろした。彼はもう一人のドライバーから彼女の釣り銭をもらうと申し出ました、しかし、彼女はいや結構と言って、クラブに入っていった。30秒後に、爆弾は爆発しました。彼の車の窓はすべて壊れました、そして、彼はが5分の間、頭が真っ白になってて、今起こったことを記憶していなかったんだ。彼の後の2台の車であった車は、すべての真っ黒になった。お釣りを取っておいてと言った女の子は亡くなったた。彼はとても幸運でした、そして、彼は彼の人生を救った乗客に感謝したかったです。

僕らはアグスと彼の仲間たちと大会のときも大会の前も毎日一緒にいたんだ。世界で一番良いヤツだよ。彼らが僕を覚えていて嬉しかった。

ＩＫＡレストランの壁に僕の名前がまだあった。ハハ。。

大会の二日前に、僕のフィンが外れちゃったんだ。ラッキーなことにフリーダムサーフショップへ持っていったら彼らは完璧にそれを直してくれたんだ。バリほんと最高。世界一のボード修理屋だし１日しかかかってないし！　しかも！たった＄15だよ。

バリではバイクが普通の足なんだ。五人の家族で一台に乗ってるのを見たよ。コレ見てよ！　一回の事故でみんなの命が失われるので本当に怖いよ。でもそれが彼らの生活スタイルなんだ。だから、もし君が車を持ってるなら幸せだよ。

クラマスのサンライズ！　すげ-キレイ。

大会の前日５３人が同時に海にいたんだ。ＡＭ６時からＰＭ１時までいて、そして！クラマスはライトだけ、だから永遠に待たなきゃならない、やっと一本乗ったら、５人ぐらいはライン上にいてほとんどぶつかりそうなんだ。ハハ。。

スレーターがまた勝った！　４つの大会で3勝。スゴイ。彼は世界記録レース中だね。　ハハハ。。

バリでは金持ちなった気分になれる！　２万円（大体$200)を両替したら2,870,000ルピーになった。それは、国際電話、インターネット料金、すべての食事、ボード修理、ＤＶＤ、水、タクシー、一週間を最後までもちこたえんだ...ナイスだね。

ＪＰＳＡ大会の初日はすごかった!!!　今まで出た大会の中でベストだった。３－５フィートでチューブ。
