In Bali now with Keisuke, Wo Kun and Batz filming for Budiasa and practicing for the contest. Looks like it'll be onshore and junky, but no worries. Practice makes perfect. This is the night after Kodama san, Shibatz and me got really good waves at some spot. So much fun! Thanks Kodama san.

Check this out! I've never seen this anywhere in the world. Our friend Masakazu Kohno has so many fans in Chiba. He surfs so good and is THE nicest guy in the world. His nickname is ZUCCHO and he has fans that lift his sign, put up his tent, get drunk and cheer for him. He's like a baseball team! haha... Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. |

Sorry I haven't updated the blog in awhile. We've been psyching on the contest and haven't had the chance. Well, Shibatz got me for last year in Miyazaki (when I beat him). I was in 2nd the whole quarterfinal heat and couldn't find a decent back up. Jason BROKE his board, ran on the beach to get a new one, got pounded paddling back out, and got an 8 to beat me. haha... But I wasn't mad at all because he did very well and got 2nd. Good job, Batz! Here's a photo of the event winner Yujiro Tsuji doing what I think was the most radical turn of the event. Congrats to Yujiro. Such a great kid. He deserves it. He practiced hard and went all out and won! Good job, Yujiro!
The finalists. Still in the Top 5. Stoked! ranked 5 now, so hopefully after Bali I can keep this roll going! A win would be nice, but gotta take it heat by heat. Can't get ahead of the game.
BJ Penn kicked Sean's butt last night in the UFC fight. He's a Hawaiian icon. Coming from the islands and becoming world famous is amazing. I can't wait to watch the rerun at my girl's brother's house.
Bruce Irons is gonna get off the tour after this year. He said that no matter what he places, he's going back to freesurfing and making videos. I'm kinda bummed about that but I hope he gets wildcards to places like Pipe and Tahiti.
Fiji's on right now! Slater, Mick, everyone is ripping!!! The waves look SICK!
Me and Batz have been SCORING! We've got good waves on this trip from the day we got here til the day we left. So, Broke Neck take that! haha...

しばらくブログをアップデートしてなくてゴメン。僕らはしばらく大会に向けて集中してチャンスが無かったんだ。
シバタは僕に去年の宮崎に僕が彼に勝ったときのお返しをしたんだ。僕はクオータファイナルのヒート中に２位だったんだけど、ジェイソンはそのヒート中にボードを折ったんだ。そしてビーチに戻って走って新しいボードを取って、またパドルで戻ってきて、波に乗って８点を出して僕に勝ったんだ。ハハ。。だけど僕は別に怒らないよだってヤツはすごく良くやって２位でそのヒートを勝ち上がったからさ。グッドジョブ、バッツ！ これはその大会の勝者のユージローの写真で、彼はこの大会で一番ラディカルなターンをしていたよ。おめでとうユージロー。すごいヤツだ。彼は賞賛されるべきだね。彼はすごく良く練習していてそれで勝利を掴んだんだ！グッドジョブ、ユージロー！ ファイナリストたち。まだ僕はランキングでトップ5にいるよ。最高！今、ランキング５位だよ、だからバリの後でも上手く続けたいね！ 優勝したいね、でもとにかく毎回のヒートごとにやっていかないと。ゲームの先頭には立てないから。 BＪペンは昨晩のＵＦＪの試合でショーンをやっつけたんだ。彼はハワイアンの象徴だね。島出身で世界中で有名になるなんてすごいよ。僕は彼女の兄貴の家でまた試合をＴＶで見るのが楽しみだよ。
ブルース・アイアンは今年からツアーに出るのをやめたんだ。彼は彼のランキングとか気にしないって言っていて、フリーサーフィンとビデオ撮影の活動に戻るんだって。僕は少しそれが悲しいけどパイプとタヒチでワイルドカードで出てくれると嬉しいな

Had a really nice, short trip home. Seen a bunch of friends, played cards, learned a lot from a contest, and got to see my everyone. Going to Japan for JPSA #2 at Kamogawa. Thank you everyone for your support. Stoked to have people who are cheering for me. It's a long year and everyone contest is important. These next few weeks will be intense. Time to focus... | Maili Pt. 1-star Day 1 | ||

Did the Maili Pt. E-Series 1-star event today. The waves were small but ok. I was stoked to be in trunks! 1 week ago I was in a 5mm with boots!?! Got lucky in my first heat and got a couple good ones. Even got a 9.5. Stoked. But it don't count in the 2nd Round.
Macy's E-Series 1-star WQS Event at Maili Pt.
Then, paddled out to Sandy Beach again to practice. It was pretty small. Comp's on again tomorrow. Hope I get a few good ones... |

Bruno Santos and Manoa Drollet killed it in the Tahiti event! Two wildcards making the final in Tahiti. It's the first time in 12 years that's happened. It's also the first time in 5 years a Brazilian has won a WCT event. Congrats to Bruno he surfed an amazing event. 10 heats, 15 stitches, and a first place trophy. Amazing.
Who thinks the WCT contests aren't competitive. There's 2 guys in the water and they still get interferences. How'd you like to be surfing Bowls and there's only you and some guy out and he happens to drop in on you. Haha... Funny stuff if you think about it.
The VOG, Volcanic fog from the volcanoes on the Big Island have raied the islands again. It's really bad and affects many with asthma and sinus problems. This was today. Looks like L.A.
This was a couple months ago. Same place. Big difference.
The Macy's E-Series didn't go off today. They had to cancel the event because the waves were flat at Maili Pt. So, I jetted down to V-Land to meet Kin san and get some photos. Super stoked I did because I got a solid hour in with some good waves before all the other competitors paddled out and it got onshore. Stoked.
Then, later went down to Sandy's to try and practice. I flew all the way over here. To not practice when the spot is 30 min. away would be stupid. So, when I got there, nobody was out and it was thigh high to waist high. Not that fun but surfable and glad I did. It was pretty hard to surf. Comp should be on tomorrow at Maili Pt! Hope it's fun. |

Stoked. Yesterday, I surfed with my friend Kalei out at Sandy's to practice and we had a quick one at Diamond Head and there were waves! It was super fun! Stoked to come home to waves.
Then, went home and saw the rankings. Stoked! It's been awhile since I've been up there. And I'm going to keep the roll going.
Then, checked surfervillage.com and saw the article that Glenn put up on the web. Stoked on that too! Just stoked to be home.
Then, woke up and saw that the Tahiti contest was on, and I have internet. Stoked again! I could be in Japan right now with the slowest internet ever and not be able to watch the comp. Hopefully, it's on again tomorrow: www.billabongpro.com
On a few sad notes, there was a huge earthquake in China and many people died. I pray for them and their families. That's really sad. I also wanted to pray for my friend, Gregg's Pope. She was a great lady and had a wonderful life and lived to over 90 years old. Rest in Peace, Pope. |

Today was raining and freezing cold, but the contest was ON. The waves got overhead and it kept looking more and more like Diamond Head so I was stoked.
I wasn't stoked on putting on cold, wet wetsuits. Batz came in the car after he put on his suit cause he was so cold. haha...
Keisuke and Broken came to hang out and support us. Right on boys!
Third Place!!! I really wanted to make that final and surf against Teppei, but I'm happy with a 3rd Place. I got a good program, trained hard, and practiced a lot in Ibaragi so I'm satisfied. So stoked to be coming home with a trophy. Congrats to Teppei too. The kid's on fire. He's the man to beat, so hope to get him at the next contest in Kamogawa. Thanks for all your support.
On another note, here's the new DNA ad that just came out. Super stoked.
Well, Shibats and I are jumping on a plane tomorrow to do the 1-star WQS at Sandy's. I've always to do one in Town, and I'm not going to miss that opportunity. |

Just saw the newspaper the other day and they said there's an Iguana that they found in Makaha! I'd freak out if I saw that in my backyard! I hate them things!
How's this for travelling baggage. Shibatz is always prepared. Always. And somehow he got away with paying very little for all this stuff.
We ate Mos Burger yesterday. Mmm.. I love this place!!! Check it out a Burger with Rice instead of a bun. Mean!!!
How's this new craze in Japan. Keisuke Imada was ripping on this thing. Look closely at it. It isn't connected.
Yesterday, on our way to the contest we saw this snake in the middle of the road and Shibatz tried to catch it!!! He was seriously trying. I was tripping out cause we aren't used to seeing snakes. We ain't in Hawaii anymore.
Tomorrow's the comp and this was the waves today. Small.... Almost flat. Oh well, everyone's in the same boat. I'm ready.
Cold?!?! Uh... Just a little. I've been surfing with just a 3mm fullsuit without booties. I hate booties, but I've gotten used to not being able to feel my wax. Everyone else looks like Tomo Yoshikawa.
So next time you're complaining about the trades being too cold; remember it's always colder somewhere else... haha... |

In Japan now and it's freezing! Boots, 5mm full suit. Brrr... How's this pic, I think this happened the day I left. So funny!!!
There were still some cherry blossoms. Pretty cool.
The boys killed it at Trestles last week. Fred got 2nd and Joel got 3rd!!! Che hu!!!
Thanks to Kinoshita san and Ko san for helping me out in Ibaragi.
Wish I could grind this sashimi.
And finally seen the HOW TO Bali book. Stoked!!! Thanks to Ei Shupan. Check it out in Japan if you're a beginner, it's good advice. From picking a board to checking the waves to stading up and doing cutbacks. Wish they had these kid of things in Hawaii. |
